Abstract: | This research is conducted within the Part Manufacturing (VPM-1) department of Voortman Steel Machinery, focusing on the cutting of metal sheets using the V310 plasma cutting machine. The challenge presented by VPM-1 is the lack of insight into the required man-hours for machine operation, leading to late notifications of infeasible planning and resulting in backlogs and cutting planning delays. The study aims to address this by combining linear regression, task analysis, and a time study to develop a tool that predicts required man-hours based on order data. The tool's processes involve linear regression models for estimating required nestings, which, in turn, determine the time required for each task. The linear regression model focuses on the required area as the dependent variable and considers the part area as the independent variable. The tool is designed for user-friendliness and offers a dashboard displaying relevant data and graphs. Recommendations include expanding data storage for part characteristics, conducting a study on actual operator times, and revisiting the linear regression model in case of changes in nesting methodology. The integrated tool offers a viable approach to predicting man-hour requirements for efficient planning in VPM-1. |
