Abstract:The research was commissioned by Acute Zorg Euregio to investigate the quantitative aspects and benefits of instating an emergency department nursing float pool for the three hospitals in the region. The logistical possibilities and boundaries are investigated, and examples of float pools and modelling methods are found in literature. All potential decisions are outlined, after which the most promising decisions for the Euregio are selected. The hypothetical float pool is modelled using stochastic programming to investigate the benefits of various configurations. Based on the results of the model, selected float pool designs are proposed for the hospitals to consider along with their projected performance. Lastly, some other recommendations regarding the float pool, further research and emergency department nursing in general are given to the involved organisations.
