Abstract:This thesis focuses on creating a versatile map interface tailored to the unique needs of visitors in Yellowstone and Grand Canyon National Parks. The research begins with the development of a trial web map for Yellowstone National Park, followed by a comprehensive user analysis to assess its intuitiveness, usefulness, and aesthetics. Despite the small sample size of 20 participants, the findings offer valuable insights. Participants emphasized the importance of enhancing features like hiking trails and environmental data (e.g., crowd density and viewpoints) and expressed a preference for customization options. While most users understood the interface, some areas of confusion were identified, particularly concerning button functionality and element visibility. The study also highlighted the map's effectiveness in trip planning and supporting tourism entities. The alignment between user expectations and the interface's functionalities validated its user-friendliness. The research goes beyond interface details, exploring the broader utility of the map. It emphasizes the symbiotic relationship between user engagement and design innovation and proposes a circular conceptual framework for adaptable and user-friendly map interface development. This framework underscores the iterative nature of interface evolution and provides a foundation for user-centric interfaces, enhancing the experiential aspect of trip planning, and accommodating evolving user preferences and technological advancements.
