Abstract: | This thesis investigates the development of an at-home wound monitoring device to address the challenges associated with diabetic feet patients. The primary objective is to translate the needs of patients, caregivers, and wound care specialists into design requirements for the device. This is carried out by conducting a literature review and state-of-the-art analysis by examining existing wound monitoring solutions and interviewing the relevant stakeholder groups, collecting their feedback. The study uncovers a compilation of software and hardware requirements, and proposes an initial concept of the device, outlining how these requirements can be incorporated into a functional design. The scope of the study is limited to diabetic feet patients, a subgroup of chronic wound patients. The results showcase a proposed solution that enables caregivers from homecare organisations to monitor patients’ wounds at their residences quickly, easily and reliably . This solution embodies an at-home wound monitoring device that consists of a sensor module, a mechanical arm, and a foot stabilizer. The solution has been worked out into a functional prototype. The data collected with this solution holds the potential to predict future wound development. |
