Abstract:Willem Dijk AGF B.V. (WD), a Dutch wholesaler in fruits, vegetables, and potatoes, specializes in same-day product purchasing and delivery, offering high shelf life and low inventory levels but facing logistical challenges. The industry is marked by high obsolescence risks and variable purchase prices, with WD serving a wide customer base in the Netherlands and Germany. The company's purchasing process, dependent on daily transactions influenced by weather and price, results in logistical inefficiencies and increased labor costs due to extended warehouse operation hours. To address these issues, the thesis proposes an inventory policy model aiming to balance product freshness with logistical costs and warehouse efficiency by considering factors like demand forecasting and transportation costs. Implementing this model has shown a reduction in logistical costs and a significant increase in morning product availability, suggesting improvements in operational efficiency. However, limitations arise from the lack of demand and sales data from the current ERP system and the assumption of normally distributed demand. Recommendations include data collection and further research to optimize inventory management, enhancing WD's competitiveness and operational efficiency.
