Abstract:The aim of the study was to assess differences in processing time of brachytherapy procedures for LACC according to the EMBRACE II protocol among Dutch physicians. Additionally, it was researched whether these differences are influenced by tenure and caseload. This study employed a cross-sectional observational approach to gather data on brachytherapy procedures at academic hospitals in the Netherlands treating patients according to the EMBRACE II protocol. The results show that variations exist among Dutch physicians in processing time for LACC brachytherapy procedures following the EMBRACE II protocol, with the largest variation in step F3, contouring (IQR = 24:34 (mm:ss)). Some steps in the procedure seem to be influenced by tenure and caseload. The main limitations of the research are the limitations that follow an observational study method, like the Hawthorne effect, a single-centre pilot study and the omission of tumour staging and fraction number in the current study. Further research must be done to determine the effect of a faster-paced procedure on clinical outcomes as well as conducting similar research at a larger scale by increasing the number of observations under stricter inclusion and exclusion criteria.
