Abstract: | In today's fast-paced society, where the media wields unprecedented power over public opinion, the depiction of violence emerges as an important and compelling topic. We live in a world where reality often merges with fiction, influencing social views and individual behavior. The study "Unmasking Media Portrayal of Violence" examines the coverage done by French newspapers Le Figaro and Le Monde on the murder of 17-year-old Nahel Marzouk and the subsequent protests that sparked across France. The focus is on broader concerns around police violence and discrimination in France, aiming to understand what strategies the media use to leave indelible impressions on our psyche, influencing our perception and response to violence. This project requires more than just reading; it's about understanding the complex connection between media, violence and our collective consciousness. |
