Abstract:This study aims to improve the capacity of consumer packaging lines 1 & 3 of Europastry Oldenzaal. Europastry Oldenzaal produces and packages donuts among other pastries. The donuts are packaged in both bulk and consumer packaging. Bulk packaging is the main type of packaging at the moment (approximately 90%). However, the employees of Europastry Oldenzaal noticed a growing desire for consumer packaging from their customers. The company expects that the percentage of donuts packaged in consumer packaging will increase to approximately 30%. Therefore, the capacity of the consumer packaging lines will have to increase. In this study, a simulation model is developed to test possible interventions that increase the capacity of the consumer packaging lines. These interventions are evaluated based on two performance measures, namely utilization improvement (%) and payback period (years). Multiple promising interventions are found and discussed. Next to that, an implementation plan is described for these interventions.
