Abstract:It can be hard for novice wine consumers to choose what wines they would enjoy, and why. Wine tastings can help by educating these novice wine drinkers on how to taste, describe and assess a wine. Several technological products and projects have been created to help the user learn more about wine, but none aim to enhance the wine-tasting experience. Therefore, this research investigated how to design an interactive technology installation that supports the educational aspects of wine tasting. Based on prior research, nine design guidelines were established to create a traditional satisfactory and educational wine-tasting experience. These guidelines were translated into the interaction technology domain to form the requirements that resulted in the design of the interactive technology wine-tasting experience: A novel wine-tasting experience that educates novice wine consumers on how to taste, describe and objectively evaluate a wine using an interactive table. This interactive technology experience was evaluated to see if the requirements were met with a functionality test by the researcher, a functional usability test, and a non-functional evaluation study. Lastly, the implications, limitations and possible future work are discussed.
