Abstract:To remain competitive, project-based companies operating in today’s rapidly changing technological landscape need to strategically broaden their expertise to new domains. Given the lack of theoretical knowledge in emerging fields, experiential insights are key. As such, this thesis proposes a concrete organisational learning strategy (OLS) based on experiential learning principles. This strategy was formulated based both on theory and practice in the form of a case study for Soda studio, a project-based user experience (UX) design agency. In this case study, UX design for extended reality was explored in a project for Rijksmuseum Boerhaave, and subsequently reflected upon for Soda studio. The findings of this thesis suggests that experiential learning can help to identify the practical implications and strategic considerations involved in expanding expertise, laying the foundation for subsequent continuous experiential organisational learning. To make the established OLS actionable, a roadmap was developed. In doing so, this research addresses the current lack of concrete structures in, and conceptual nature of, organisational learning. Although the OLS as presented in the roadmap shows promise, more practical research is required to validate and further refine the steps it proposes.
