Abstract:All over the world research is being conducted on alcohol use, not only among adults, but also among adolescents and students. By now there is a rather large frame of research that focuses on alcohol use among the younger parts of the worlds population. This existing framework consists of articles that cover alcohol use in many contexts. Despite the attention that is given to alcohol use among adolescents and young adults, the problem of excessive alcohol consumption among these categories still endures. The aim of this study was to compare a selection of Dutch and US articles concerning alcohol use among those groups. To address the important differences in research of both countries, the analysis covered the used methods, topics and other qualitative aspects of the articles. By means of this comparison, it was possible to establish if there are crucial differences between research that is conducted in those countries, and to consequently see if the Dutch and US scientists could possibly learn from each other regarding research on alcohol use among adolescents and young adults. The comparison of the selected articles show that both countries do not differ very much as regards of the methodological aspects of their research. There is, however, a slight tendency noticeable in both countries towards certain topics and contexts in which the research is conducted.
