Abstract:The main aim of this present study was to investigate the quality of life of women with vaginismus in various domains. Also, the influences of socio-demographic variables and of shame were examined. A second aim was a comparative research into the quality of life among women with primary vaginismus and women with secondary vaginismus. Data were collected by means of an online questionnaire which was presented on five websites. This questionnaire contained both quantitative and qualitative questions. 184 women (N=184) answered this questionnaire: 142 women with primary vaginismus (N=142), 42 women with secondary vaginismus (N=42). In the quantitative part the level of the WHOQOL was assessed with the help of the World Health Organisation Quality of Life Assessment-Bref (WHOQOL-BREF), the level of shame was assessed with the help of the Experencies with Shame Scale (ESS). In the qualitative part 10 categories were distinguished on the basis of the answers to the two open questions included in the questionnaire.
