Abstract:The present research aimed to examine the effect of exposure to pictures of a female with a different degree of digital manipulation (no manipulation, realistic manipulation, unrealistic manipulation) model on woman’s emotion (PAD), body-esteem (BES), self-esteem (SES) and corporate reputation (CRQ). It was also examined if the effect of digital manipulation was moderated by a given statement that the image was digital manipulated (Statement). During a train travel 126 female participants was offered a questionnaire which included one picture that was condition defining. An increase of digital manipulation showed an increase of arousal and a decrease of sexual attractiveness. With the increase of digital manipulation and with or without the statement, interaction-effects were found on weight concern and self-esteem. The statement ‘digital manipulated’ had a moderating effect on weight concern and self-esteem. For corporate reputation no effects were found. Given the results, restriction of unrealistic digital manipulation and stimulation of information about presence and effects of digital manipulation is recommended.
