Abstract:More and more applications are developed that use contextual information. Such context-aware applications use strongly differing notions of context. This thesis focuses on what exactly is being referred to when designers of such applications speak of context. It also demonstrates how this knowledge can be applied to the task of finding possibilities for creating novel applications. The general conclusion is that context and context-awareness is best seen as the result of a design strategy to create more effective and efficient applications, as opposed to a specific type of application (a context-aware application) making use of a specific type of information (context
