Abstract:Recent research shows that priming of a large or small physical distance affects the feelings and evaluations of people (Williams & Bargh, 2008). This study investigated whether the priming of physical distance on a website affects the evaluation about the delivery time of a product offered. Also is examined whether the difference between an abstract or concrete description of the delivery time affects the evaluation about the delivery time. When the evaluation is positively affected, it could lead to an increase of sales. The results showed that the delivery time on websites with a small physical distance was positively affected. In addition, there were also interaction effects between the physical distance and the description of the delivery. When the physical distance was small, the delivery time was evaluated more positive when the description of the delivery time was concrete. On the contrary, when the physical distance was large, the delivery time was evaluated more positive when the description of the delivery time was abstract. Because an abstract description of the delivery time negatively affects the opinion about a website, further research is needed to determine the impact on the purchase intent.
