Abstract:The goal of this bachelor assignment is to help the consortium Flextension develop a active, wearable arm orthosis by designing a elbow hinge which is consistent with the previously determined requirements and can be included in the overall design. This has been done by starting with a market research to gain insight into existing products en by exploring the information necessary for developing a elbow joint supporting hinge. The data was gathered by analyzing the target group, patients suffering from Duchenne, and the elbow. Then this data was used to develop a product feature analysis and a list of requirements. Different concepts were realised using the product feature analysis and the list of requirements. Subsequently the realised concepts were compared with the list and one of them was chosen to be further developed. The final design is a combination of a brace, or orthosis, and a parallelogram. The parallelogram ensures a momentum and the orthosis ensures the transfer of forces from the parallelogram to the arm
