Abstract:Research on knowledge management has considerably increased over the past two decades. Complexity, increasing innovations in technology and increasing consumer expectations meant that organizations became aware of the importance of knowledge management (Bennet & Bennet, 2003). Researchers indicate that knowledge can only thrive with leaders showing properties very similar to properties that occur in transformational, or emotionally intelligent leadership. | Although that the characteristics of the knowledge management leader match those of the Transformational leaders, researchers hardly researched the effect of Transformational leadership on Knowledge Management The main purpose of this study is to provide a systematic review of empirical results obtained from research into the facets of transformational leadership that impact on Knowledge Management, published in the period 1999 to 2010. The sub-purpose of this research is to provide prospects for potential research on Knowledge Management and leadership styles. Thirteen studies were relevant. Seven of those studies didn’t pas the data assessment phase. The Six remaining studies were quantitative studies and their content was analyzed. Five studies fit within the construct " The Relationship between Emotional Intelligence / Transformational Leadership an The functional organized organization’. One study fits within the construct "The Relationship between Emotional Intelligence / Transformational Leadership and Learning Organization. We can conclude that at least three Characteristics of transformational leadership have effect on Knowledge Management and were actually measured. Those three Characteristics are: Individual Consideration, Intellectual Stimulation and Inspiration and Charisma. (Crawford, 2005, Gowen et. Al, 2009; De Vries et.al, 2010; Politis, 2001; Politis, 2002). The fourth characteristic: Idealized influence, is not measured in any of the studies. Nor have all four facets of emotional intelligence been researched in relation to Knowledge Management. In addition is the relationship between Transformational leadership and Learning Organization also demonstrated (Chang & Lee, 2007).
