Abstract:This report will give a summary of the work that I have done during a three month internship at Nakilat Damen Shipyards Qatar (NDSQ). The internship is part of the study Mechanical Engineering. The Nakilat Damen Shipyard is the first shipyard in Qatar. The shipyard is a joint venture between Damen Shipyards and Nakilat. Nakilat is a LNG shipping company. At the shipyard, commercial vessels, coastal defense vessels and luxury yachts will be built. In the period I have been in Qatar, the shipyard was still in the starting phase. At that time the first ships and LOR barge were built. During the internship I have worked on several subjects in the Facilities and Maintenance department of the shipyard. The different projects that I have worked on had a broad scope. At the beginning of the internship I have worked at the production for the Facilities and Maintenance department. Requests from the production needed to be fulfilled. I have learned to communicate with different kind of persons and nationalities. This work gave a good introduction to the company. Another assignment was to create a maintenance schedule for the Facilities and Maintenance department. First, I have made a maintenance schedule in Excel. Since the schedule in Excel did not have enough options, the maintenance schedule was implemented into a program. For the schedule, there had to be looked at different kind of tools and equipment. There could be a need for periodic maintenance, calibration or certification. A new Mobile Boat Hauler was assembled at the shipyard by the manufacturer. The Mobile Boat Hauler is able to lift small boats up to 300 ton. The boats can be lifted out of the water. My assignment was to coordinate this project. All the structural, hydraulic and electrical parts of the Mobile Boat Hauler were assembled by the manufacturer. Besides coordinating this project I have made some design improvements for the Mobile Boat Hauler. At last, I have made procedures to create a Facilities and Maintenance manual. These procedures were needed for the renewal of the ISO 9001:2008 certificate. Flowcharts of processes were defined to ensure that the calibration, certification and maintenance were kept up to date. The procedures were presented at a renewal audit of the certifying company.
