Abstract:In this article, the research on the effect of a Bogus Pipeline procedure on the social desirability bias of Machiavellianism is being described. In two stages 41 test subject filled in a survey. During the second stage the experimental group faced a Bogus Pipeline [BPL] procedure, where they were convinced that their attitudes were measured by the researcher. The goal of the study was to find out if subject scored higher on the Mach scale, because Machiavellianism is known as a very negative personality trait and people are not willing to be associated with this trait. This hypothesis was rejected, but there were some interaction-effects found showing that de procedure might have worked after all. This study is the first trying to connect Machiavellianism, a BPL procedure and the social desirability bias.
