Abstract:This report has been written as part of the bachelor assignment of industrial design at the University of Twente. The assignment has been completed for ‘Handle with Care, designers of public spaces’. They are designing a new town center plan for Hoensbroek. The square in the center of Hoensbroek is currently a large parking area. It is used for a weekly market as well as various other events. The market stall owners and other users want to have full access to the square. However in the new design the square is separated from the street by “green-elements”. Originally Handle with Care wanted to separate the square from the surrounding street, however this was not possible as access to the square must be available. To solve this issue Handle with Care suggested to make the separating “green-elements” portable. This bachelor assignment is to design these “green-elements” and place them within the larger design of the Hoensbroek square. The end result has been developed to be presented to the town council as part of the total redesign. Included in this is a cost indication of the design. Based on this report an informed decision can be made if the green-elements shall be applied or not.
