Abstract:Background: University of Twente is currently working in collaboration with Roessingh Research & Development to design and implement an aftercare-application, named ‘NaDien’, that is intended to support patients suffering of chronic pain in maintaining the learned behaviour. Research has shown that chronic pain patients have difficulty to maintain learned behaviours when they are at home. The aim of this study is to explore whether chronic pain patients have a need for aftercare and how they think the aftercare-application ‘NaDien’ can be best implemented. Method: A total of 6 participants participated in this study, all females, with an average age of 45 years. A semi-structured interview is used to find out whether patients suffering of chronic pain need aftercare and what chronic pain patients recommend regarding the implementation of the aftercare-application ‘NaDien’, so it can be best implemented. During this interview, the focus was on the following three topics: (Dealing with) learned behaviour, ‘NaDien’ and implementation. Results and discussion: Almost all participants have a need for aftercare. All participants said the aftercare application was handy and the majority of participants indicated they will definitely use the application. However, they suggested a few simple adjustments. According to the participants the application should be introduced at the end of the treatment in the treatment group at the rehabilitation center. Further research on the effect of the after-care application 'NaDien' is recommended.
