Abstract:Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is intended to promote the well-being of people. Through this the risk of developing a mental illness is lower. The intervention "Geluk en zo" is a short term self-help intervention, in which the processes of the psychological flexibility model are influenced. During 2 weeks 8 participants made 4 different exercises based on these processes. Ultimately, the goal of this intervention is to increase the well-being of the participants. At this time, the intervention is still in the development to become an Internet intervention. It is important to engage the user with his wishes and needs at an early stage of the development so that the usability is increased and by that the effect of the intervention. Questionnaires that measure the well-being and processes of psychological flexibility were used and interviews were conducted which provide an inside into the user experiences. Although the differences between the pre- and post-tests were not significant, the interviews did indicate that participants noticed an effect. The experiences of the participants showed that they acted more consciously and value-oriented after the intervention and this can ultimately promote wellbeing. After further adjustments this intervention is likely to have the potential to prevent the development of mental illness.
