Abstract:This report describes the design process of a new cable joint for Lovink-Enertech. The assignment was to design a multi-functional joint housing. This housing must incorporate all the necessary features. These features are provided by various components in the current model. In addition, the cable joint must be easy to assemble and produced for a low price. In the analysis phase a couple of things are analyzed. First of all the current joint model to gain insight in the various components and features. In addition to this the research results leading to this asignment were analyzed to get a first impression of how the project objectives could be achieved. With the collected information, it became clear what the design problems were for the project. These design problems and project goals are further elaborated in the job analysis. Goals of this project are to: ▶ Limit the number of assembly steps. ▶ Make the assembly steps independent to their mechanic. ▶ Limit the sensitivity of the assembly steps for assembly errors. ▶ Maintain low production costs. We investigated the possible solutions that already exist. Researched areas include the competitive companies, the market and the opportunities within the used production methods. The results from the previous studies are consequently used in generating realistic ideas on how to solve the design problems. These ideas are each tested for functionality and the degree to which they meet the goals of the project. The resulting ideas/solutions are then combined into 3 concepts. These concepts were further elaborated. This shows the degree to how the project requirements are met. After the basic functionality demands where met the main focus was put on the installation time and the pricing of the cable joint. The various partial solutions can then be compared. In the final stage of the project we try to combine, merge or optimize the partial solutions. By doing so we try to create a resulting joint housing that best meets the goals of the project. The final concept involves making a SolidWorks model and a printed scale for visualization.
