Abstract:The ultimate Software-Defined Radio (SDR) front-end can concurrently capture and process any number of radio signals. In this thesis we present the implications and problems of the Full-Spectrum Receiver (FSR) which attempts to facilitate this functionality. We study the requirements for a practical receiver in order to relate the performance of an FSR to the classic radio receiver implementations. We identify the main difficulties and trade-offs in the architecture in both the signal reception and digital processing. We implement a prototype FSR on a Virtex-6 Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) and use it to validate our statements.
