Abstract: | A drone which can interact with a wall has several benefits for, for example, inspection of a surface. To get an accurate representation of the force applied to the surface a closed-loop controller on the thrust is preferred. An accurate thrust sensing unit is needed to give the amount of thrust back to the controller. Amethod to sense the thrust is through the use of strain gauges on the beam where the motor is attached to, but this is prone to noise generated by the motor. The assignment is to design an independent mechanical-based thrust sensing unit which will measure the thrust and also filter high frequency noise produced by the motor. It will be small, lightweight and able to serve as a gadget, which can be connected to any drone which meets the requirement of the motor. Commercial components will be discussed and analysed for the design. Lastly, the performance of the unit was validated through experiments and recommendation for a future unit were given. |
