Abstract:In the context of the slowly progressing energy transition, several renewable energy initiatives have been emerging in India and The Netherlands. These initiatives are an alternative model of the global energy transition. This thesis work analyses existing business models and the new business models that are leading to different multi-scale transitions towards low-energy societies. It examines several different cases from India and The Netherlands. The focus of the study is renewable energy cooperatives. The approach is to gather qualitative data from six different cases from India and The Netherlands. The theoretical framework of business model canvas coupled with elements of social entrepreneurship is used to analyze existing and new business models. The comparative analysis is aimed for cross-learning opportunities.
