The environmental performance of the new circular mattress : a life cycle study
Vreriks, S.G. (2020)
In this report, we present a first Life Cycle Analysis, in which two mattresses with different end-of-life paths are evaluated. The thesis contains a research project at a Dutch bedding company, that aimed to investigate spectrum of environmental impact tools and analyse the impact of two products through one specifically selected method. Hereby, an excel based tool is created to translate a great amount of energy data, product and material data, into one carbon footprint value, for various scenarios. To model the transportation burden of the products, a new formula is proposed that include the occupancy rates of trucks and the inefficiencies of packaging. Life Cycle Analyses are based on a large number of assumptions. Therefore, by the use of a Monte Carlo analysis, an indication of the uncertainty range is given for each of the carbon footprint outcomes.
