Abstract: | Objective. Rapid growth in Indonesia's ICT industry requires a large number of skilled professionals who can keep up with technology. This study examines how ICT professionals maintain their professional identity in a new technology environment and how they make meaning as they gain new skills. The DTS's effectiveness in enhancing ICT professionals' skills will be examined. This research addresses a gap in the literature about ICT professionals' identities and how they interpret digital skill development. Methodology. This qualitative study used semi-structured interviews with open-ended questions. This study includes 20 ICT professionals who complete the Digital Talent Scholarship program in 2021 and have worked in the field. The data were coded thematically and openly. Intercoder reliability score confirmed coding validity. Results. This study found that ICT professionals could articulate a strong sense of what it means to be a member of their profession. These strong professional identities assist ICT professionals in adapting to technological change. They actively upskill and reskill in response to their awareness of digital skills' constant progress. As a result, DTS has emerged as an alternative training offered by the Indonesian government to accelerate human capital development in ICT skills. Implications. This study highlights the need to take into account the efforts made by all relevant parties—namely, those working in the field of ICT, the government, and private sector companies—towards the enhancement of human capital in the ICT sector. |
