Onderzoek naar de invloed van het experiment “Tunnelen met licht” in het middelbaar onderwijs op begripsproblemen in de quantumfysica

Wiggers, G.J. (2023)

To support secondary school education in Quantum Physics, experiments have been developed that are easy to implement in the school environment. One of these experiments is the “Double prism tunneling experiment”. It appears that all educational books used by schools posit the phenomenon of tunneling as a quantum phenomenon to the students. There is no explanation from classical wave theory. In this study the "double prism tunneling experiment" was extended with the classical Huygens-Fresnel Wave model for the refraction of light and this combination was used to investigate the acceptance of the quantumtunneling in a small testing group of the students. It appeared that the students can process the wave theory well and it can be concluded from their answers that the phenomenon of quantumtunneling is therefore assumed more as a logical consequence of the behaviour of light as a wave.
