Abstract: | Background: In guiding forensic psychiatric inpatients, healthcare professionals (HCPs) face challenges due to limited opportunities for patients to practice coping with external triggers. VR applications offer a potential solution by providing a safe environment for patients to simulate this transition. Objectives: This study aims to explore the potential of CleVR's VR software in assisting HCPs with guiding forensic inpatients. It seeks to identify existing shortcomings in the guidance process and assess whether CleVR can address these issues. Additionally, the study aims to identify implementation barriers and propose strategies for overcoming them. Methods: This qualitative study involved desk research followed by semi-structured interviews with 15 participants. Results: Desk research highlighted the involvement of various healthcare professionals in guiding inpatients. CleVR shows promise in addressing specific improvement areas, particularly in the treatment phase. Comparing desk research findings with interview results revealed new insights into the utilization and implementation of CleVR in guiding forensic inpatients. Discussion: HCPs express enthusiasm for using CleVR to guide forensic inpatients, especially in preparing them for guided leave. Despite variations in VR interventions, insights from previous implementation research can inform the development of an implementation plan, given potential overlaps in identified barriers and strategies. |
