Abstract:
Commercial aviation contributes significantly to global CO2 emissions, requiring innovative solutions like the MEA concept to reduce the environmental impact of air traffic. Power electronics are a big part of MEA and can be further researched to improve its efficiency and weight, resulting in better fuel economy. This thesis focuses on the design of a five-level interleaved ANPC converter as a case study for an aircraft pressurization system. The prototype achieves a 99.3% efficiency at an output power of 20 kW, but further research needs to be done on input filter size and weight reduction. The results demonstrate the feasibility of using multi-level converters in MEA systems to meet future regulations on emissions.
