Abstract:
This research was conducted to explore if recommendations from psychological research about heterosexual condom use, are being used in Dutch health promotion. The quantity and the manner how instances of text within health promotion leaflets correspond to social cognitive and behavioural correlates of heterosexual condom use have been investigated. Fife Dutch health promotion leaflets have been selected and analysed. This was done by text analysis by use of a coding manual which has been developed by Abraham, Krahé, Dominic and Fritsche (2002) for a similar research in Great Britain and Germany. The results from the current research show that the social cognitive and behavioural correlates of heterosexual condom use are mostly only moderately addressed in Dutch health promotion leaflets. This is as well in quantity as in manner how. The recommendations from psychological research are mostly not used in the practice of health promotion
