Van Deltacommissie tot Deltacommissie: De rol van adviescommissies in de besluitvorming over veiligheidsnormen voor hoogwaterbescherming

Abstract:
The report describes a research on the role of advisory committees for the setting of safety standards for flood prevention measures in the Netherlands. All primary flood prevention measures in the Netherlands have to suffice to a certain standard. After the flooding disaster in 1953 an advisory committee, called the Delta Committee, was asked to develop these safety standards for the entire Dutch coast. Since then four more committees have given an advice on the safety standard for flood prevention in the Netherlands ending with the second Delta Committee in 2008. In just one case, in 1956, a safety standard for flood prevention was set without the advice of a committee.
