Abstract:
Fatigue is a universal health problem; it is often accompanied by impaired physical and mental health. In order to impede the development of mental disorders and symptoms preventive interventions are very important. This study aims to reveal to which extent the level of fatigue of people with slight to medium mental symptoms can be reduced by means of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT); for this purpose, a self-help course based on ACT in combination with MBSR (Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction) with email support has been evaluated. ACT is a new form of behavioural therapy that puts less emphasis on the reduction of symptoms but focuses more on the enhancement of psychological flexibility. The course consisted of studying the Dutch self-help book "Voluit leven".
