Een evaluatie van de boek metafoor

Objective and subjective measurements for reading an e-book on an iPad were performed to investigate the use of metaphors in the context of interface design. The ACT-R theory by Anderson, (Ian Robertson, 2001) as well as Lakhoff and Johnson’s (1980) theory about metaphors were used as a background. The measurements are operationalized by quality criteria by Eger, Bonnema, Lutters, and Van der Voort (2008). There were two conditions with respectively 27 subjects. The objective ratings measured were reading speed, and recalled units of information, whereas the subjective ratings were the SELS a questionnaire about the subjective e-book reading experience, and three evaluation questions about the interface. The difference between the two interfaces was how a subject turned a page. There are no statistical significant differences between the two conditions. The hypothesis that there are differences in the evaluation results between an interface that shows more features of a conventional book, and one with less features is not supported by this experiment.
