The European Union and the Russia-Georgia War of 2008

Political scientists all over the world developed the idea in the 80s that traditional war between states would go out of style and in the long-run the US would be the sole country and superpower upholding the capability of being able to lead two wars at the same time whenever, wherever and against whomever. This thesis is supposed to illustrate the role of the EU in the prelude to the war and argues that the EU's policy in the region was a major co-determinant to the war's eruption. In the beginning of the introduction the shift in the understanding and perception of conflict and war from traditional interstate war to the new era after the “end of history” was mentioned, which expels war between states against each other. These two understandings of International Relations are represented by Offensive Realism and Neoliberal Institutionalism, which are both going to be applied on the prelude of the war.
