Psychologische (in-) flexibiliteit bij chronische pijn patiënten en de relatie met beperkingen na een online zelf-hulp Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) interventie

Abstract:
The main goal of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) based interventions is to reach more psychological flexibility. This is studied in 20 participants of an internet-based guided self-help intervention for chronic pain based on ACT (Trompetter, Bohlmeijer, Veehof & Schreurs, 2014). The ten people with the most improvement and ten people with the least improvement were selected and form two groups that were compared. Their mail contact with the mentor was analysed and labelled following criteria for psychological inflexibility and flexibility to investigate the relationship between psychological (in-) flexibility and pain disability, for each group. There was no relationship found between improvement in pain disability and psychological flexibility. However, further research may be interesting, because psychological flexibility was frequently mentioned.
