Purpose of the bachelor assignment, of the course Industrial Design on the University of Twente, is a design assignment which has to be executed at an external company. This provides completion of the bachelor part Industrial Design. This assignment is executed at De Verbinding BV, located in Groningen. It is a company which produces dormers and sliding doors. It is an extraordinary company, because it functions with 90% deaf employees. The assignment, the design of an innovative dormer, is made with the following idea: - A dormer provides an extension of the space in the consumer’s house. - A solar collector provides a reduction on the consumer’s heating costs. Looking at the environment problems, it is lucrative for De Verbinding to introduce a new product which contributes to a reduction of the fossil fuels. The logic combination is a dormer with an integrated solar collector, whereby two positive things are combined in one product.
