Abstract:
The goal of this master thesis is to take a look at the animal feed company’s current energy buying behavior and give recommendations regarding the feasibility of applying their raw material procurement strategy to energy. The purchasing of raw materials is done according to the animal feed company’s own procurement strategy. Business units buy autonomously but through information sharing and deliberation consensus is found across all. Furthermore the animal feed company tries to outperform the market by being flexible with the timing and length of buying decisions based on a view on the markets. The acquisition of energy has been left out of this scope and has only recently been added to the responsibility of the Purchasing & Trading department. The following steps have been taken in order to reach a recommendation: • Literature study regarding procurement. • Literature study regarding electricity markets. • Review of the current energy buying practices. • Review of the energy markets the animal feed company is active in.
