Municipal CCTV surveillance and privacy : research on the influence of CCTV surveillance in Enschede city centre.

In public administration, citizens’ discomfort with any perceived loss of privacy can create limits on the usage of public data for both public affairs and municipal operations. Investigating such potential loss of privacy is there for interesting to research. Moreover, the use of CCTV surveillance data can help to improve governmental services but it can also create distrust in the government as citizens might question its legitimacy and preventive activities. Therefore, the main objective of this thesis is to examine the attitudes of citizens towards municipal CCTV surveillance with regards to people’s privacy and to explain their reactions towards municipal CCTV surveillance.
