A methodology on analyzing pressurized lip seal geometry under misalignment through glass
Giorgio, Thomas (2019)
Sealing is frequently used in engineering purposes. One of many types of sealing purposes is stern tube seal, where it is used to prevent leakage on a stern-tube shaft. One part that prevents the leakage is lip seal. In practice, the lip seal is pressurized due to a pressure difference between the sea part and the stern part. Moreover, static misalignment frequently occurs during assembly of the stern tube seal. This research produces and discusses how to measure the deformed pressurized lip seal geometry under misalignment, and the results are compared with preceding research and preceding FEM simulations.
