Increasing cardiac arrest survival by improving the volunteer alerting algorithm

Hartslagnu is a system for alerting volunteers in cases of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). We used simulation to analyze and improve the alerting algorithm in terms of which volunteers are alerted, when the alert is cancelled and which volunteers are sent to pick up an automated external defibrillator (AED). Our proposed solution increases simulated survival chance from 13.7% to 15.5%. Additionally, we found some circumstances where the system should be adapted.
