Apps and online games for a better mental health

Abstract:
The purpose of this research was to investigate whether an online game or an app using gamification elements could be used as a therapeutic tool for patients with mental health issues such as depression.This research investigates the participants’ motivation to use technological devices for therapy and analyses which elements are necessary for a successful treatment. The results confirm that many patients consider an alternative way of therapy due to the lack of therapists available. Gamification can be used to increase engagement and to motivate users to work on themselves.
