How to align storage and order picking in the VMI warehouse

This research was conducted at the VMI warehouse of VMI Holland B.V., located in Epe. The goal of this research is to test alternative storage and picking policies for the warehouse. To do so, the VMI warehouse has been recreated in a simulation model to test multiple alternatives, improvements, and scenarios. The storage policies have been assessed on efficiency, effectivity, and robustness for future developments. Next to these quantitative arguments, multiple qualitative arguments for and against each alternative can be given. Based on these arguments, two storage policies seem to remain interesting for the VMI warehouse. For both policies, a road map has been made that can be used to implement the storage policy.
