Implementation of a stochastic LCA method into BIM environment at infrastructure design projects - a case study of a bridge
Author(s): Péntek, G. (2023)
Abstract:
The world is evolving towards a more sustainable future, which can also be observed in the infrastructure industry. More and more software and platforms are developed to account for the sustainability of a product during its entire life cycle. This research aims to develop a framework incorporating stochastic Life Cycle Assessment and BIM-based modeling. The framework prototype is tested through a case study of bridge infrastructure. The results show a more flexible way to calculate the Environmental Impact Score of a bridge asset and account for dynamic changes and uncertainties that could occur through the different phases of a construction project. The results show a possible way to determine a bridge asset's Environmental Impact Score quickly. However, further development should broaden the solution to other infrastructure and building assets.
