Determining the Role of Negative Life Events and Well-being in the Rise of COVID-19 Conspiracy Theories

Author(s): Schleicher, J.L. (2023)

Abstract:
Conspiracy theories have become a reappearing phenomenon in the last decades and reached a new high during the COVID-19 pandemic. As their origins and reason to believe in them are not entirely understood this research proposed that negative life events and well-being play a substantial role in their appearance. Thus, this study's focus was to test for the connection be-tween policy-related negative life events and conspiracy theories in a COVID-19 pandemic context, while focusing on the potential mediating role of well-being.
