Abstract: | We identify a re-evaluation step as a gap in the literature for operational surgery scheduling. This re-evaluation step is necessary in hospitals where patients are planned a long time before receiving surgery. This time gap results in changes occurring between the time of scheduling and surgery, such as patients cancelling. We use a stochastic approach to re-evaluate the surgery schedule on an operational level and make a limited number of changes. We improve an existing surgery schedule by minimising a combination of overtime, risk of extreme overtime and utilisation of the operating rooms. To determine the risk of extreme overtime, we use the CVar. A sample average approximation approach is used to solve the stochastic problem. |
