Abstract:This paper describes the development of a cost reduction framework for single products of high mix, low volume manufacturing companies. The framework is established through a case study on a movable climbing frame whose cost price is reduced by 7 to 18%. The process followed in the case study forms the basis for the framework. The framework prescribes eight phases users can go through to identify cost reduction opportunities, develop them further, test them, and ultimately evaluate which solutions should be implemented permanently.
