Abstract: | The multiple processes connected with the scientific term globalization have a deep impact on how the society of the 21st century is organized. As places across the globe become more and more interconnected in various social, political, economic and cultural networks, their interdependence although grows accordingly. However this process does not lead to a more equal distribution of resources such as knowledge and competitiveness between places. Actually quite the opposite effect is happening – dynamic and mobile factors like investors, companies and creative people use their mobility to choose from a wide range of locations the one region or city that best suits their needs. This process puts the full pressure of globalization on nearly every place across the globe and creates a hierarchy of places to be. Every region or city is now trying to find a good place within this global hierarchy and thus competes with each other. The competing places all have totally different premises from which they come from – different factors which may be good or bad for their competitiveness on a global scale. |
