Abstract:What is the prevailing sexual moral of youngsters in the Netherlands? This question raised in the media, the government en several institutions involved with the sexual health of the Dutch youth lead to this research. Although extensive research has been conducted on the sexual health of the Dutch youth, less attention was paid to their sexual norms and attitudes. While precisely these factors play a big role in the development of sexual education and related prevention methods, to match the prevailing ideas and norms of the target group. The aims of this study were to discover the prevailing sexual norms and related experiences towards a wide variety of sexual relations and behaviours. These relationships and behaviours vary from homosexuality and premarital sex to less accepted relations and behaviours like sex in exchange for material gains and non-consensual sex. At the same time attention was paid to the factors that might be of influence on these norms. Demographic factors, musical preferences, identification with different music-based youth cultures and use of media. The research target group consisted of youngsters from the age of 15 because at this age attitudes and ideas are developed and under construction and these youngsters are more vulnerable for external influences
